Planning porta potties for the Aiken Triple Crown

The Aiken Triple Crown fills three March Saturdays with the Aiken Trials, Pacers and Polo, and the Aiken Spring Steeplechase. Tailgate groups and event crews need restrooms that work on grass fields with big, all-day crowds.

How many porta potties does a Triple Crown tailgate need?

A Triple Crown tailgate needs about one standard porta potty for every 200 expected uses. A 40-person tailgate on site for 6 hours makes 40 × 6 = 240 uses, which rounds up to 2 units. With a bar, add 1 more for 3. Add a hand washing station if you serve food.

Guests × hours ÷ 200, rounded up; alcohol adds 1 per 4 units (min. 1).

Does the event supply restrooms for tailgaters?

Large Aiken horse events supply public restroom banks, but private tailgate and corporate tent groups often want their own units close by. Ask the event organizer whether outside units are allowed in your lot, where trucks can enter, and what time units must be placed and removed.

Aiken County lists the spring equestrian calendar, including the Aiken Spring Steeplechase, on its Equestrian Events page. The Steeplechase expected about 30,000 guests in 2026.

Where should units go on a grass field?

Units on a grass field should go on the highest, firmest ground near your lot, facing away from the rail and the food. March rain can soften fields fast. Pick a spot the truck can reach on a lane, not across open turf, so delivery and pickup do not get stuck.

  • Keep units 50 feet or more from food tables.
  • Group units together so the line is easy to find.
  • Mark them with a flag or balloon for big lots.

When should you book for March?

Book Triple Crown restrooms 6 to 10 weeks ahead. March weekends are among the busiest in Aiken, and restroom trailers and accessible units go first. Many groups re-book for next year on pickup day, which locks the same spot on our calendar.
